Feb. 21 (UPI) — The president of Iceland shared his disdain for pineapple on pizza by announcing he would ban the topping.
While speaking at a high school in North Iceland President Gudni Thorlacius Johannesson was asked how he felt about pineapples as a pizza topping and replied by saying if he could pass laws he would ban the topping throughout the country.
Gudni, who holds an approval rating of 97 percent, was also asked which English premiere league soccer team he rooted for.
The pizza topic was the question that gained the most attention and prompted the president to release a statement.
“I like pineapples, just not on pizza,” he said. “I do not have the power to make laws which forbid people to put pineapples on their pizza. I am glad that I do not hold such power.”
After clarifying his stance on pineapples, Gudni shared his thoughts on presidential power and offered his own pizza topping recommendation.
“Presidents should not have unlimited power. I would not want to hold this position if I could pass laws forbidding that which I don’t like. I would not want to live in such a country,” he said. “For pizzas, I recommend seafood.”
