June 8 (UPI) — Neighbors in a Rhode Island town are pleading with officials to intervene after a resident used unwashed clam shells to create an access road.
Tiverton residents said a neighbor had a truck load of clam shells laid down on the property about a week ago, and the smell that wafted over the area soon made it clear the shells had not been washed.
“Some parts still has the meat, so now it’s decaying. It’s like bodies decaying. So, you’ve got about a million bodies decaying,” next door neighbor Sharon Moore told WJAR-TV.
“Everything is sort of taken over by this stench of decaying,” resident Blair Moore told KTRK-TV.
Residents have taken to protesting at the side of the road to draw attention to the issue. They said the property owner, David Rose, has refused to discuss the issue with them.
Tiverton police and the state Department of Environmental Management said the matter is under investigation.
