Fire crews battle wildfire in Rose Canyon, near Herriman

HERRIMAN, Utah, Sept. 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews have responded to a wildfire in Rose Canyon, near Herriman.

Firefighting helicopters have responded to the scene of what is now being called the Rosecrest Fire, and evacuations have been ordered. According to the most recent report, 80 acres have burned.

According to reports from the scene, several sheds and other outbuildings had burned. Several residents trying to return home to collect items or safeguard horses were turned away due to safety concerns.

Herriman City has posted alerts regarding school children, windshifts and water dips by helicopters Facebook page:

There is a wildfire in Rose Canyon. Crews are currently on scene fighting the fire, which seems to be heading up the canyon away from neighborhoods.

UPDATES 
3:33 PM – Rose Canyon Rd is closed west of 7500 W.

3:42 PM – Students that attend Butterfield Canyon Elementary that live in High Country 2, and ride bus 1491, will be kept at the school until their parents or emergency contact picks them up.

3:49 PM – NW winds shifting to the south at 10-20 mph. Current temperature is 82 degrees.

3:56 PM – Water dips will start at The Cove Pond. The pond is now closed to the public.

4:26 PM – The Red Cross will be at Butterfield Elementary as a place for displaced residents, who were evacuated by UFA, to go.
