‘Moana’ tops the North American box office with $55.5M this weekend

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 27 (UPI) — The animated adventure “Moana” was the No. 1 movie in North America this weekend, taking in $55.5 million in receipts Friday through Sunday, BoxOfficeMojo.com announced.

Coming in at No. 2 was “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” with $45.1 million, followed by “Doctor Strange” at No. 3 with $13.4 million, “Allied” at No. 4 with $13 million and “Arrival” at No. 5 with $11.3 million.

Rounding out the top tier are “Trolls” at No. 6 with $10.3 million, “Almost Christmas” at No. 7 with $7.6 million, “Bad Santa 2” at No. 8 with $6.1 million, “Hacksaw Ridge” at No. 9 with $5.5 million and “The Edge of Seventeen” at No. 10 with $3 million.
