WASHINGTON, June 16 (UPI) — Natalie Portman insisted on having a female director for upcoming Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic On the Basis of Sex.

The 82-year-old Supreme Court justice revealed as much at the American Constitution Society convention, according to MSNBC. Portman, 34, was first linked to the project in May.

“Natalie Portman came to talk to me about this, and we had a very good conversation,” Ginsburg said. “[She] held up the project for a while. She said, ‘I want the director to be a woman. There are not enough women in this industry. There are many talented out there.’ And now they do have a woman director.”

On the Basis of Sex will follow Ginsburg’s career and her fight for equal rights for women. President Bill Clinton appointed the justice in 1993, making her the second woman to hold the title in the history of the Supreme Court.

Daniel Stiepleman wrote the script, with Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl) in talks to direct. Portman will also portray Jacqueline Kennedy in new biopic Jackie, and is rumored for new Alex Garland (Ex Machina) movie Annihilation.
