BOX ELDER COUNTY, UTAH – August 25, 2015 (Gepahrdt Daily) A 16-year-old boy is in serious condition Tuesday after falling 40 feet off a cliff between Mcquire and Pearson canyons Monday night.
According to Box Elder County Sheriff’s office, they received a call around 7 p.m. of a hiker that had fallen vertically from a cliff.
The hiker was with two other 16-year-old boys at the time of the incident who helped control the bleeding and treat the victim at the scene until crews could arrive.
Willard first responders, who had to hike to the scene, were the first medical personnel to render aid. Box Elder Search and Rescue technical team responded and Life Flight was called out of Ogden.
Life Flight was able to fly the Search and Rescue team and their needed equipment to a point very close to the victim. Upon arrival rescue personnel discovered after falling off the 40 foot cliff, the victim had tumbled down the mountainside an estimated 250-300 feet suffering severe injuries to head and extremities.
“After some maneuvering down a canyon the team was able to establish the proper anchor points and hoist the victim up the mountain to an established landing zone,” said Chief Deputy Dale F Ward, Box Elder County Sheriff’s office. “At approximately 1 a.m. Search and Rescue and Willard Fire/First Responders were able get victim on LifeFlight for transport to McKay Dee Hospital.”
The victim was reported to be in serious but stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
