MILLARD COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 24, 2023 (Gephardt Daily) — The driver was air-lifted in critical condition after his semi-truck crashed through a guard rail and struck an embankment Tuesday, closing southbound Interstate 15 in Millard County.

One southbound lane of I-15 had reopened two hours after the 5:30 p.m. crash at mile marker 132 near the I-70 exchange, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said.

The crash was bad enough that both the semi’s cab and trailer were totaled, he said.

It took an hour to extricate the driver from the wreckage, and officers on scene couldn’t immediately determine if another occupant was in the crushed cab, Roden told Gephardt Daily.

At freeway speeds, he said, the impact threw the trailer into the cab, causing the cargo of food products to stack on top of the cab.

Investigation continues as to why the southbound truck drifted off the right-hand side of the roadway, he said.

No other vehicles were involved.
