SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified the driver they say crashed into a UDOT Incident Management truck Thursday night on State Route 201 at 5000 West.
Keigan Matthew Sumsion, 25, was arrested Thursday and charged with:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, a class B misdemeanor
- Reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor
- Open container/drinking alcohol in a vehicle, a class C misdemeanor
Witnesses told police a red Mustang was driving recklessly and caused a crash, according to a probable cause statement filed in Salt Lake City Justice Court by a Salt Lake City Police officer.
While talking with the driver of the Mustang, the arresting officer wrote, “I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage.”
The driver, identified by his license as Sumsion, “admitted to having a few drinks that night.”
The officer put Sumsion through field sobriety tests and determined that Sumsion wasn’t safe to operate a motor vehicle. Sumsion was then arrested for DUI.
The officer further states in the charging document that Sumsion refused to submit to a blood draw “even after refusal admonitions were read.”
Two open beers cans were found in Sumsion’s vehicle, and a warrant was obtained to draw his blood. Two vials of blood were drawn without incident, the statement says.
Sumsion was then transported to the Salt Lake County Jail, where he was booked on the charges.
The UDOT truck driver was unhurt in the collision, and the driver of a second vehicle that was hit suffered minor injuries.
