Couple Uninjured After Passenger Pulls Emergency Brake On Car Traveling 100 MPH

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Jan. 4, 2016 (Gephart Daily) — A passenger pulled the emergency brake on a car traveling at 100 mph on Bangerter Highway, police said.

West Valley City Police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said the incident happened at 3200 South Bangerter Highway, Monday morning at around 2 a.m. She said a woman was driving the car when her boyfriend pulled the emergency brake because the two were arguing.

Vainuku said this caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, hit a light pole, and roll several times, finally landing upside down.

During the investigation it was found the woman’s boyfriend was intoxicated.

The vehicle didn’t have insurance and was impounded. The driver was issued a citation for multiple traffic offenses and the boyfriend was cited for interfering with the driver.
