Garland Man Dies In Logan Canyon Climbing Accident

LOGAN, Utah, April 30, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Garland resident died Saturday morning in a Logan Canyon climbing accident after falling 75 feet.

William Hornberger, 46, was assisting in a young women’s group activity in an area called First Wall. Hornberger was securing anchors for the other climbers when he slipped and fell, sustaining critical injuries.

Medical crews from the Logan City Fire Department and the Cache County Sheriff’s rescue unit responded to the scene at about 9 a.m. Hornberger was taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hornberger was wearing safety gear, but it was not anchored, according to a Cache County Sheriff’s statement. The fall was witnessed by others in the group, the statement said.
