Human-caused wildfire on Highway 189 in Wasatch County grows to 50 acres

DEER CREEK, Wasatch County, Sept. 14, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A wildfire fire has shut down U.S. Route 189 in both directions at the Charleston Junction in Wasatch County.

“US-189 closed due to a wildfire,” a UDOT Traffic tweet says. “NB US-189 closed at MP 25 (Charleston SR-113), SB US-189 closed at MP 27 (2400 South). Expect delays in the area, consider using US-40 & I-80 as alt route.”

The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office posted the following information:

“Today (Saturday), at approximately 3 p.m., the Wasatch County 911 Center received a call reporting a brush fire in the vicinity of Highway 189 and Highway 113.

“Wasatch County Fire crews, the State of Utah and Federal Resources are currently working on suppression efforts. The fire is believed to be human caused and is approximately 20 acres in size.”

Later on Saturday afternoon, Utah Fire Info posted that the Deer Creek Fire has now burned 50 acres and is 0% contained.
