SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 19, 2023 (Gephardt Daily) — State wildlife officials were able to rescue a moose who got on the wrong side of fencing at the Interstate 80 wildlife overpass in Parleys Canyon.

“A cow moose recently made her way onto an I-80 on-ramp near the Parleys Canyon wildlife crossing overpass,” the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said on social media. “She became separated from her calf by wildlife fencing.

“Luckily, our biologists and law enforcement officers were able to safely tranquilize and relocate her to the safe side of the fence with her calf!”

A two-minute video included with the statement shows the mother and offspring peering at each other through the fence, as well as the tranquilizing of the mother and her return to the traffic-free safe side.

In ongoing comments tied to the Tuesday evening Facebook post of the adventure, the DWR said it would be working with the Utah Department of Transportation to determine how momma moose was able to defeat the fencing around the wildlife overpass.
