PANGUITCH, Utah, Sept. 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has confirmed that a suspected tornado Thursday evening in Panguitch was legitimate, and rated it an EF1.

An EF rating categorizes the speeds of a tornado. EF 1 means winds of 86 to 110 mph occurred in the Panguitch tornado.

An earlier NWS-Salt Lake City tweet estimated the Panguitch wind speeds at the top of that category, at 110 mph. The tweet also said the maximum damage occurred within a 25-yard area.

NWS-Salt Lake City officials indicated they would travel to Washington Terrace today to assess damage and assign that Thursday afternoon tornado an EF rating.
