Police respond to shooting at Fashion Place Mall in Murray, 2 victims hospitalized, hundreds of shoppers evacuated

MURRAY, Utah, Jan. 13, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police from multiple agencies are responding to reports of a shooting at Fashion Place Mall in Murray.

Police on scene confirmed two people were shot. The victims, a man and woman in their 20s, were taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. The woman was first reported in serious condition after being shot in the leg. She was ultimately treated and released from the hospital.

The male was shot in leg and back and was listed in critical condition.

Police confirmed they are looking for three possible suspects seen running eastbound.

Hundreds of shoppers were escorted from inside the mall. Many had taken refuge in backrooms and storage areas throughout the building while waiting to be rescued.

One shopper told Gephardt Daily they heard a warning siren about 1:40 p.m. and were just leaving the mall when they heard what they thought were gunshots.

“We were in the container store and we heard the warning siren and saw the lights to leave,” the shopper said. “We were outside of the store for maybe a minute while people were leaving, and we heard what sounded like gunshots.

“We ran to the truck. We lowered the windows to see if we could hear what was going on, and could hear someone yelling.”

Police are viewing surveillance videos in an attempt to identify the suspects.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
