SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect who allegedly stole a cart full of power tools in Salt Lake City was arrested after a foot pursuit Tuesday morning.
Timothy George Foster, 50, is facing one count of third-degree felony burglary, one count of class A misdemeanor failure to stop at the command of a law enforcement officer, one count of class A misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and one count of class B misdemeanor use or possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake City.
The incident began just before 8:45 a.m. Tuesday when the suspect was observed coming out of an apartment building under renovation at 155 E. Second Ave. in Salt Lake City.
“A/P (accused person) was pushing a wheeled cart full of power tools,” the probable cause statement said. “A/P was observed doing this by subcontractors that were arriving for work and know that he does not have legal permission to be in the building or have possession of the tools.”
The suspect pushed the wheeled cart to Second Avenue and Canyon Road where he abandoned the property, the probable cause statement said.
The workers and some witnesses followed him on foot to City Creek Center where he exited on the 100 South side of the mall.
“When he exited, there was an SLCPD officer who told him to stop whereupon he ran,” the probable cause statement said. “Officer got in a short foot pursuit to 100 South Main where he was apprehended.”
After the suspect was searched, a small amount of suspected methamphetamine was found in his backpack, which field tested positive, as well as a couple of spoons with burn residue and drug residue, and some hypodermic needles.
After being read his Miranda rights, Foster admitted to committing the burglary, the probable cause statement said.
He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $5,000.
