PRICE, Utah, Dec. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Price City police have made an arrest in a counterfeit bill case.
A Facebook post from Price City Police Department Thursday, Dec. 5 said: “Over the last week, the Price City PD has taken numerous reports on counterfeit currency that has been passed at several local businesses.”
The counterfeit bills being passed were in denominations including $1 bills, $5 bills, $10 bills, $20 bills and $50 bills, the post said. The bills were being passed at times when stores are busy and the clerks are distracted.
After the initial Facebook post about this case, the department received an anonymous tip on Friday, identifying the alleged suspect in this case, along with other investigative information, said a follow-up post Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect has been identified as Patrick Christian Bugg, who also goes by Christian Patrick Bugg, 26, from Cedar City, but who is currently residing in Wellington.
On Monday, Price and Wellington police officials along with a Carbon County Metro Drug Task Force agent located Bugg at a Wellington apartment complex. Bugg was taken into custody, and was allegedly wearing some of the same clothing as when he passed forged money. Additional evidence was also seized, the post said.
Bugg cooperated with officials during an interview, the post said.
The suspect was booked into the Carbon County Jail on four counts of forgery/passing counterfeit bills, a third-degree felony. Reports will be submitted to the Carbon County Attorney’s Office for screening and determination of appropriate formal charges.
Bugg was allegedly out on bail regarding a stolen vehicle case out of Utah County when he was arrested. According to court records, Bugg has 10 previous arrests with seven convictions.
“The investigation is still active while tying up loose ends to the case,” the post said.
