SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – August 22, 2015 (Gepahrdt Daily) – Slide the City showed up in Salt Lake today and thousands gathered for their chance to ride the 1,000 foot Slip ‘N’ Slide.
Slide the City is a national event that travels the country bringing fun in the sun to thousands of people and raises money for charity.
Brandon Jay, event director for Slide the City, said while the main purpose of the event is to have fun, and being able to raise money for charity makes the event even better. “We are sponsoring the Ronald McDonald house for the Salt Lake City event and they supplied us with all the volunteers so we really want to give a huge shout out to them for all the help,” said Jay. “We are also really grateful to the city of Salt Lake as this is our second year and we are just glad they let us return.”
The event website describes the event as a family friendly slip-and-slide water party event. “There will be live music, food, drinks, water, and of course the biggest slip and slide ever to hit asphalt. Don’t worry, we’ve got it padded.This slide’s got more cushion than your grandpa’s orthopedic sneakers.”
If you are wondering if the slide is worth the cost, others who splurged for a chance to race the downtown city streets in there bathing suits appeared to have had nothing but great things to say about the event.
“This is my first time and it was awesome. I really was a little worried I would bump into people but it turned out to be so much fun,” said Evelyn Salazar. “It was really a pretty view of downtown and there are just so many people. I will definitely come back next year, it is really so awesome.”
Dayna Sorensen, who paid for nine people to ride the slide, said it was worth it. “My adrenaline was really going because at the top it’s really fast and fun, so much I’ve already gone three times.”
Sorenson said she also think it’s wonderful the money is going to charity. “It was really expensive and it makes it worth it that it will help out with a great cause,” said Sorenson. “I’ve been to The Ronald Mcdonald House, it is a great place and a great charity.”
The slide will be open until 7 p.m. today but don’t feel bad if you miss it, Slide the City will be making a stop in Orem on Saturday, September 5, 2015.
