SALT LAKE CITY, March 13, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Spring break is finally here and college students all over the state of Utah have high expectations of living a week like every movie that is based around the greatest week in a college student’s life. Maybe you’re like I am and have friends that just boarded a plane to make their way to Cancun, Mexico, or maybe they’re on a road trip headed to the magical spring break land of Miami, FL or a beach somewhere in Calif. But as for you, you are unfortunately stuck here in Utah. But maybe it’s not so unfortunate after all when you have the opportunity to have fun and save money.

Spring break is a time to “relax” before you finish that dreaded final push of the spring semester. A lot of times traveling can be more exhausting than actually sitting in class for however many hours a day, but there’s one problem it is still technically winter here in Utah. But that doesn’t mean you can’t catch some waves or get a nice tan. Gephardt Daily has looked at a few different places that you can enjoy your week away from classes.

Surf n’ Swim and Flowrider: These two locations were made for individuals who are looking to ride the waves for a day. Surf-n-Swim in Layton and Flowrider in Ogden and Provo are a bit different from each other creating a unique experience at each location. At Surf-n-Swim on Monday-Friday 6-8:45 p.m. and Saturday’s 12– 8 p.m they have what is called the Open Wave. During the designated times swimmers can swim throughout the pool waiting for a timer to sound that the begins the waves. Each ride lasts for ten minutes and happens every 20 minutes. Flowrider gives Utahn’s a realistic surfing experience by pumping 30,000 gallons of water under their feet each minute. Riders take turns riding the waves on a body board or stand-up flow board. To learn more about Surf n’ Swim visit http://www.laytoncity.org/public/surfnswim/ and learn more about Flowrider check out http://flowriderutah.com.

iFLY: Maybe you’re looking for a little adventure in your life. iFLY allows adventurous souls to enter fly indoors and receive an experience similar to skydiving. Flyers enter a vertical wind tunnel where they take position and begin to fly. Individuals can fly as young as three years old and all flyers are required to go through training with a certified instructor. Utah Olympic Park: Utah hosted the 2002 winter Olympics. The Utah Olympic Park was a well-visited location in 2002 and still is to this day. Visitors can head to the Park City location to participate in a plethora of activities including bobsledding, zip lining, adventure courses, riding a chair lift, visiting museums, or hiking. The Homestead Crater: A crater that is hidden by a 55-foot beehive-shaped limestone rock truly is an amazing secret kept in Midway, Utah. Many activities are offered within the dome, visitors can soak, swim, snorkel, or scuba dive for a variation of prices. The top of the dome lets in natural light and the mineral based water that is constantly 90-96 degrees Fahrenheit heats the inside. Learn more about the crater and prices by visiting http://homesteadresort.com/utah-resort-activities/the-crater.

Arches National Park: The arches are one thing that every Utahn should experience at least once in their life. Arches National Park has over 2,000 natural stone arches along with pinnacles, fins and balanced rocks. Tourists are able to camp, backpack, hike, rock climb, horseback ride, or bike around the national park. Arches is a great opportunity to get away for the week, get some sun and have some fun. For more information please visit http://www.nps.gov/arch/index.htm.

Or if none of these sound appealing or maybe your completely out of cash, you can always simply just do what I plan on doing and sleep the entire break away as I have been severely sleep deprived the whole twenty years of my life. Maybe binge on Netflix and do a little Facebook stalking, whatever you end up doing, happy spring break kids.
