SSLPD: Motorcyclist dead, driver hospitalized after collision on 33rd South

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, June 16, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist is dead, a car driver is hospitalized, and 3300 South near 200 East is closed in both directions after a collision Tuesday afternoon.

The collision happened at about 3:46 p.m., South Salt Lake Police spokesman Shaun Ward said.

Officers arrived and found that a Mazda CX 9 had collided with a motorcyclist, Ward said.

“The driver of the Mazda was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. But unfortunately, the driver of the motorcycle was declared, deceased on scene. We’d like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.”

The Salt Lake County Car Team came to assist with the investigation. The roadway, 3300 South, was closed between State Street and 300 East. It was expected to be closed for several hours, Ward said at about 5:18 p.m.

The rider killed was male believed to be in his mid 20s. It was not immediately known if he was wearing protective gear.
