ST. GEORGE, Utah, July 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect is facing multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a woman’s house in St. George, putting a cloth in her mouth and sexually assaulting her.
A news release from the St. George Police Department said the incident occurred on April 17 and was initially reported as a burglary in the 300 N. Main St.
“The police met with the victim, and learned that a sexual assault had occurred,” the news release said. “The victim stated while she was asleep a male came into her house, woke her up, put a cloth in her mouth and sexually assaulted her. She did not know who the male was.”
Based on information gathered and the evidence processed, the suspect was identified as Spencer Monnett, the news release said. Monnett was interviewed by detectives and placed under arrest Saturday. He is facing charges of rape, object rape, sexual battery, burglary and assault.
Further details of the assault were not given by police.
The news release said St. George Police Department would like to recognize its officers, detectives, the State Crime Lab, Parabon NanoLabs and others who assisted with the investigation.
“We would also like to thank our victim for her courage, strength and perseverance throughout this investigation,” the news release said.
