KAYSVILLE, Utah, Dec. 13, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are looking for suspects who may have placed a credit card skimming device on a gas pump at a Kaysville 7-Eleven.

A news release from Lt. Kenton Pies, Kaysville Police Department, said officers responded to a report of a suspicious incident at the 7-Eleven at 385 W. 200 North on Monday.

Employees of the 7-Eleven alerted the police department to suspicious wiring found on pump No. 9, concerned that the wiring could be a credit card skimming device. This device was found by 7-Eleven employees as part of their regular inspection of pumps for these type of devices. All other pumps were also checked and nothing suspicious was found.

The Kaysville Police Department is working with the FBI’s Intermountain West regional computer forensics crime laboratory for identification of the device. It is not known with how long the device has been in place or if any credit card information has been compromised, the news release said.

“Due to this we recommend that anyone who has paid for fuel with a financial transaction card at the 7-Eleven located at 385 W. 200 North at pump nine monitor their credit card accounts diligently or contact their financial institution to have the account closed and a new account open,” the statement said. “We hope that these efforts will minimize the possibility of people being victimized and additionally not provide criminals with stolen funds.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Kaysville Police Department at 801-546-1131.
