SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – August 26, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – New and returning students attended PlazaFest at the U. of U. today to check out the various involvement and academic opportunities available to them.

Fall PlazaFest takes place during Welcome Week, the first week of fall semester in the Union Plaza.

A total of 205 different clubs and organizations, academic departments and sponsors gathered, to interact with around 4,000 students.

Nik Ferrari of Music Makes Music, a nonprofit organization that is designed to educate, motivate and inspire teenagers to live a drug free life through music, said they were there to enlist volunteers. “Our aim is to help teens with many things they are struggling with,” he said. “We are at the U. of U. to create a group of volunteers that can support the cause. This is the first stop of many universities we want to visit.”

Brooke Diston is a volunteer for Bedsider, which aims to promote a positive and safe sex life on campus. She said the group tries to present different options, by working with Planned Parenthood and the Wellness Center. “We promote birth control, STD testing, and women’s health,” she said.

The next PlazaFest will be Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. Spring PlazaFest takes place during the first week of spring semester in the Union Ballroom.
