MURRAY, Utah, Oct. 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Unified Police officer sustained minor injuries while arresting two suspects accused of rolling a stolen car in Murray on Monday afternoon.

Unified Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Melody Gray told Gephardt Daily that the incident began when officers spotted the vehicle at the Discovery Inn, 380 W. 7200 South, at approximately 3 p.m., and noticed it was listed stolen out of Lehi.

“The officers went to approach that vehicle when the occupants fled,” Gray said. “The officers were following the vehicle as it fled northbound on Cottonwood Street and when it came up on the intersection here at Winchester it struck another vehicle going eastbound.”

It’s not yet clear who had the right of way, Gray said.

The person in the vehicle that was struck was not hurt, however an officer sustained minor injuries while arresting the suspects. Gray did not say exactly what the officer’s injuries are.

A 24-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were taken into custody, and they also both sustained minor injuries.

The investigation into who stole the vehicle and how they came into possession of that vehicle is ongoing.

Murray City Police Department will investigate the traffic accident because it occurred in its jurisdiction. UPD will handle the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the occupants of that vehicle.

It’s not clear when the vehicle was stolen.

Neither suspect has been identified at this time.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
