TOOELE, Utah, Feb. 25, 2018 — The driver of a pickup truck that police said deliberately rammed a passenger car and its driver Saturday afternoon has been arrested in Murray.
Kelly Andrews, 43, was arrested without incident at approximately 12:30 p.m., according to Tooele City Police officials. Andrews will be booked into the Tooele County Jail; details of the possible charges he will be facing have not been released yet.
Tooele Police Sgt. Rob Benson told Gephardt Daily the incident took place at about 4:30 p.m. at 1000 North and Main Street.
A gray Dodge pickup truck and a maroon passenger car were both traveling northbound when, witnesses said, the driver of the truck, later identified as Andrews, started trying to run the car off the road.
Benson said it isn’t known if the car was forced off to the side or if the car’s driver pulled over and stopped.
When the driver of the car got out of the vehicle, the truck rammed it, hitting both the car and the driver.
“The victim was basically a pedestrian at the time,” Benson said.
He was transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Benson said he possibly had broken bones.
Andrews fled and was followed by a witness to the end of Crescent View Lane, where he parked the truck and took off on foot.
Police set up a containment area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
There is a prior relationship between Andrews and the passenger in the car, officials said, but at this time the nature of that relationship has not been released as the investigation is ongoing.
