Update: Officials ID husband, wife killed in fall at Arches National Park outside Moab

MOAB, Utah, Dec. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a man and woman dead after a fall at Arches National Park outside Moab Friday.

The deceased are Toshiaki Amimoto, 65, and his wife Etoko Amimoto, 60, both of Torrance, California, said a news release on Facebook from Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Their son, who is 30, suffered serious injuries but survived the fall.

The family of three fell at approximately 7:45 a.m. while traversing a steep slope in the area of Delicate Arch, officials said.

“The accident occurred in a sandstone bowl that is adjacent to Delicate Arch,” the news release said. “The weather at the time of the accident was intermittent rain and snow with temperatures in the low 30s.”

Arches National Park personnel, Grand County EMS, Grand County Sheriff’s Office and Classic Medical Helicopter responded to the area of the accident. The injured man was flown to Moab Regional Hospital.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Park Service and Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
