BEAVER, Utah, July 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Skull Flat Fire, which began July 3, is now 75 percent contained, officials said Wednesday.

The 1,625 acre fire, which was believed to have been started by lightning, is burning five miles east of Beaver.

Utah Fire Info on Facebook gave the following update Wednesday:

“Today, the local Type 4 Team took command of the fire. Yesterday, crews extinguished burning material near control lines and felling snags. Today’s activities and weather are similar to yesterday, with crews monitoring and addressing hot spots along the fire perimeter. Isolated smokes may be visible from Beaver and the surrounding area.”

Hotter and drier weather conditions are expected throughout the week, the post said. Acreage remains at 1,625 and the fire is currently sitting at 75 percent containment.

No structures are threatened and there are no evacuations or closures at this time.

Utah Fire Info also added in a Facebook post Tuesday: “There have been 100 wildfires reported in Utah since July 1. That brings the 2019 season to a total of 256. Firefighters have made relatively short work of almost all of them. There is only one fire in the state actively burning as of right now: Skull Flat.”

For the month of July, more than 90 percent of all wildfires were human-caused.

“Show your commitment to preventing wildfires by taking the SPARK CHANGE Wildfire Prevention Pledge here,” the post said.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
