WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, June 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 32-year-old man was shot in an alleged road rage incident as he was trying to get a family member to the hospital in West Valley City Wednesday night.
West Valley City Lt. Scott Buchanan said several witnesses called 911 to report a man had been shot during an altercation with another motorist at 6:20 p.m. at the intersection of 3500 S. 4000 West.
Buchanan said Peter Bierly was a passenger in a car that was taking a juvenile with a medical condition to the Jordan Valley Hospital’s West Valley campus when the incident occurred.
Police officers say the driver of the car Brierly was in may have been driving erratically, and that upset another motorist.
The two cars eventually reached a red light when Bierly got out of the car and approached the suspects, who were in a vehicle farther back.
Buchanan said a verbal exchange occurred, and the back seat passenger pulled out a hand gun and reportedly shot Bierly.
Witnesses told officers the shooter was one of three men in a silver or gray Dodge Charger or Chrysler 300M with tinted windows and silver rims, and that the men had been aggressively engaging the victims.
The car Bierly was in left him and his mother to wait for medical crews, and rushed the juvenile to the emergency room.
The suspects left the scene headed south on Bangerter Highway.
A witness gave police a license plate number of E0030N, but that is not a valid plate. Buchanan said officers believe the actual plate number would be similar.
