According to Utah Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Rylee Mckenna Larkin of South Jordan was driving a 2008 Hyundai and was traveling west on SR-201 on the ramp to go west on I-80. The vehicle lost control on the wet/ slick roadway and hit the concrete barrier to the right. This caused her vehicle to become disabled in the only lane of travel. An 2003 Mazda, traveling the same route, came around the bend and rear-ended the Hyundai. The impact sent both vehicles into the gore area between the ramp and I-80. The rear impact to Larkin’s sedan caused fatal injuries.

The driver of the Mazda was not injured and a passenger in the Mazda was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

While providing traffic control for the same fatal crash near mile marker 1 on SR 201, A trooper was parked assisting at the closure of the intersection of SR 201 and SR 202. A Chevy Cobalt was traveling westbound at an excessive speed and ignored the cone pattern and drove around the cones impacting the driver side of the Trooper’s vehicle.

The collision pinned her in the driver seat and caused the side airbags to deploy. She was transported by ground to IMC in fair condition with a cut to her head and leg injuries from the collision.

UPD is doing the crash investigation.
