Sept. 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — News media in Fort Worth, Texas, are reporting that two police officers were shot Friday night while responding to a suicide call in the Wedgwood neighborhood of Fort Worth.

In a news conference broadcast by ABC affiliate WFAA8, police officials said Officer Ray Azucena and probationary officer Xavier Serrano arrived at the home at about 8:30 p.m. and found one person, deceased, in a back bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head.

The officers were told by someone else in the house that a witness to the shooting could probably be found in a shed outside. When the officers approached the shed, they were fired upon, police said.

Azucena was shot multiple times in the upper torso and extremities, the police spokesman said, and was in critical condition. He came out of surgery late Friday night and is expected to recover.

Serrano was struck once in his bullet-proof vest. He was alert and talking to officers after the shooting, police said. He also was transported to the hospital.

SWAT was called out and deployed gas cannisters. Following the standoff with SWAT, police confirmed that the suspect was dead.

Police said they have been called to the same home on multiple occasions for domestic issues between a son and father.

In Philadelphia on Friday night, CBS Philly reported that two police officers were shot in West Philadephia.

Police there said a female sergeant with the Philadelphia police and a male officer from the University of Pennsylvania were injured a few blocks from the university campus.

CBS Philly reports that the male officer was shot in the hand and the woman was shot several times into her vest.

Both officers were taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital and are in stable condition, police said.

CBS Philly reports the suspect was shot and killed, and police continue to search for a possible second suspect.
