WASHINGTON, D.C., July 30, 2015 – (Gephardt Daily) – Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Affairs, is tired of the IRS Chief John Koskinen obstructing Congressional Investigations and he sent a letter to President Obama telling him so.

The letter, dated July 27, 2015, claims that Koskinen’s obstruction “takes the form of failure to comply with a Congressional subpoena, failure to testify truthfully, and failure to preserve and produce up to 24,000 emails relevant to the investigation.”

Chaffetz further stated that Koskinen bears the responsibility for a number of actions that may have permanently deprived the American people of a complete understanding of the IRS targeting scandal and in the course of doing so he misled Congress and acted with complete disregard for Congress’ efforts to find the truth.

The 32-page letter goes on to detail everything Chaffetz says Koskinen has neglected to take care of and is then signed by 20 members of the house of Representatives.

The IRS issued a statement in response to the accusations saying that Koskinen and the IRS have been cooperative and truthful with the numerous investigations underway. “The agency has produced more than one million pages of documents in support of the investigations, provided 52 current and former employees for interviews and participated in more than 30 Congressional hearings on these issues.”

Chaffetz vowed to “pursue all constitutional remedies at our disposal, including potential contempt proceedings or perhaps impeachment” if the president does not remove Koskinen from his position.

“The American people will never know all the facts surrounding the agency’s targeting of conservative tax-exempt groups,” said Chaffetz. “This is an unacceptable outcome and one that demands those responsible be held accountable.”
