SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 19, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake City Fire Department was called to the site of a gas leak Monday evening, after Questar Gas personnel on scene realized that repairing the leaky line was taking longer than expected.

Capt. Dan Marlowe, public information officer for SLCFD, told Gephardt Daily the underground leak in an older line near 1050 N. Redwood Road was permeating the ground and the odor of gas was becoming quite pronounced.

Questar had to excavate to reach the line and found that more than one area needed to be repaired.

Marlowe said the fire department was called at about 6:30 p.m., after Questar had been on scene for awhile. Firefighters responded as “basically a standby,” he said, and to help elderly residents evacuate their apartments at the Redwood Road location as a precaution.

By 9:30 p.m., the line was repaired and everyone on scene was “wrapping up,” Marlowe said. No injuries or illness resulted from the leak.
