PROVO, Utah, Nov. 5, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Provo Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating an armed robbery suspect who targeted at least two, and possibly three, motels Sunday night.

Provo Police Lt. Brian Taylor told Gephardt Daily the first motel that was hit was the Sleep Inn, at 1505 S. 40 E St.

Taylor said the suspect — wearing jeans, a plain gray hooded sweatshirt, with a black mask over his face — entered the motel’s lobby and demanded money from the clerk. No one else was in the lobby at the time.

The suspect then jumped over the counter and kicked at the cash register. The clerk told the man that there was no money, Taylor said.

Frustrated, the suspect then fled the motel. Taylor said it isn’t known if the man was on foot or if he had a vehicle.

The clerk wasn’t injured, except for a minor abrasion on the wrist from being grabbed by the suspect.

A few minutes later, a man fitting the same description entered another motel and again demanded money.

Taylor said it’s possible that a third motel was robbed shortly after that, but he did not have specific information about a third incident.

The suspect was described as 6 feet 1 inch or 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a lean build. His face was covered by the mask, and Taylor said no estimate of his age or other features is available. Comments on the police scanner indicated that he may be a white male in his 20s, but that description is unconfirmed.

Provo Police put out an “attempt to locate” on this suspect into Salt Lake County.

Lt. Taylor asked that anyone who may encounter the suspect, or who has any information about the robberies, should call 911 immediately. Do not approach the suspect. He is considered armed and very dangerous.
