Egg-Stealing Snake Slithers into Charlotte Couple’s Kitchen

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 2 (UPI) — A Charlotte couple captured video of a home-invading snake lowering itself from a spice cabinet and snatching eggs from a basket.

Robert Hildreth and Laura Neff said they used an iPhone to film the snake about 6 p.m. Sunday when they heard a jar fall in their kitchen and followed the sound to find the serpent feasting in their egg basket.

Neff, who posted the video to YouTube, said the reptile measured at least four feet long.

“We armed ourselves with brooms, Robert opened the window, and it took us about 15 minutes to nudge/cajole/encourage it far enough out the window that we could get its bulk under the brooms and heft it all the way out,” Neff told WBTV.

“At the last second, it gripped my broom really tightly, trying not to fall the few feet to the ground,” she said. “I had kept my cool fairly well up until that point, but there was a minute there that I completely spazzed out and whacked the broom handle on the window sill really fast, finally getting it to let go!”

The couple said they found a hole in their laundry room wall that might have been the snake’s entry point. They said the hole is now covered with a concrete block.

The video was also posted to Facebook, where it went viral with more than 7,000 shares and nearly 400,000 views as of Tuesday afternoon.
