DELAND, Fla., Dec. 23 (UPI) — A Florida jewelry store is offering an unusual promotion for Christmas shoppers: a free shotgun with jewelry purchases over $450.
The Downtown Goldsmith Jewelry & Engraving and 2nd Amendment Firearms store in DeLand said its annual “Fire and Ice” sale offers customers who purchase more than $450 worth of jewelry — or “ice,” as diamonds are sometimes known — a free 12-gauge shotgun, the “fire,” worth about $270.
“We kind of took the take off the shotgun wedding and twisted it a little bit so more people could get involved,” store owner Jessie Czerok told WKMG-TV.
Czerok said this is the third year of the annual promotion.
“Get something for your wife, [and] you get a shotgun for free,” Czerok said. “[It’s] a little incentive to buy some jewelry for their wives.”
She said the gender roles don’t hold true for all customers.
“We’re had a lot more women coming in this year, either buying themselves a piece of jewelry and giving the gun to their husbands or buying men’s rings and keeping the gun for themselves,” she said.
The store owner said anyone seeking a free gun has to pass a background check.
“If they don’t pass, they don’t get a gun,” she said. “We don’t just let anyone walk out of here with a gun.”
