HURRICANE, Utah, May 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — All Hurricane schools went into temporary lockout Thursday afternoon as police investigated a report of a student threatening to “shoot up” a school.

The Hurricane City Police Department contacted all schools in the city and asked them to enter lockout protocol from about 11:30 a.m. until noon during an investigation into the alleged threat.

“We take these threats very seriously,” police said on social media, “and because we had not yet located the student, we had all schools stop anyone from entering.”

The lockout was lifted after police were able to locate the student who allegedly made the threat, the post says.

“Our investigation into this matter is still active and ongoing,” the post says.

“We thank all of our schools for their cooperation as keeping our children safe is our top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused when picking children up from school.”
