HURRICANE, Utah, May 5, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — An 18-year-old Las Vegas man drowned while swimming with friends Saturday afternoon at Sand Hollow State Park.

Christian Jeffrey Fisher was swimming in the dive park area about 2:20 p.m. when his friends saw him struggle to keep his head above water, the Utah Division of State Parks said in a news release.

Fisher, who was not wearing a life jacket, went underwater and did not resurface.

His friends immediately called for help, and Utah State Parks rangers, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and the Hurricane City Police Department responded, the release says.

Fisher’s body was recovered in the water about 4:20 p.m., and he was pronounced dead, according to the news release.

“The Utah Division of State Parks extends our condolences to Fisher’s family and friends,” the release says.

The incident remains under investigation.

Utah State Parks encourages those recreating in the outdoors to prioritize safety.

“Always recreate with a buddy, wear your life jackets and helmets, and let somebody know where you are going and when to expect your return. Checking weather conditions and water temperatures is also vital. Pack appropriate gear for your activity and stay hydrated while outdoors,” the release says.
