SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 10, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A young girl is in critical condition after being ejected during a traffic accident Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.

According to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Martin Kaufmann, the accident happened at 8:30 p.m. when a Ford Explorer headed east on 800 South was hit by a northbound pickup truck traveling on 500 West.

“A 9-year-old female was ejected during the accident and has been taken to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition.” Kaufmann said. “Four other children, ranging in ages from 1 to 15, and an adult, were in the Expedition and one adult in the truck. No one else was injured.”

Kaufmann said the cause of the accident is still under investigation but preliminary results indicate the driver of the truck may not have yielded at the stop sign.

It is not known if the girl was wearing a seat belt or where she was seated in the vehicle.
