SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The West Government Creek fire has grown from 150 acres Friday afternoon to 4,006 acres Sunday afternoon.
The fire is zero percent contained, according to a tweet from Utah Fire Info.
The fire is approximately 20 miles southwest of Vernon, 3 miles north of Erickson Pass.
A shift in the wind caused some spotting over the Red Pine Ridge, and the fire was coming down the Red Pine Ridge slope, according to the Forest Service.
Tooele County has closed the roads from Highway 36 to Pony Express Road, Lookout Pass Road and Erickson Pass Road.
Authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for campers in the area, but that order was lifted around 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Forest Service reported that multiple agencies have responded to this fire, including Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, and state and county resources. Two Type 3 helicopters, four single-engine air tankers, two heavy air tankers, a dozen six engines, three water tenders, a Forest Service Initial Attack (IA) Squad, one Type 2 IA crew, and 2 Hotshot crews are on scene, with personnel at the scene estimated at 100.
