Man In Custody After Allegedly Setting Fire Near Hunstman Cancer Institute

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 21, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is in custody on suspicion of starting a grass fire by the Huntsman Cancer Institute late Monday afternoon, according to Salt Lake City Fire Department.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., SLC firefighters responded to several reports of the grass fire north of the Institute, according to spokesman Jasen Asay. The flames covered a 50-foot by 50-foot area.

Crews quickly extinguished the blaze, Asay said. He said witnesses reported seeing a man start the fire.

The suspect was taken into custody by University of Utah Police.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
