SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 1, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City man was arrested Saturday after he tried to conceal a golf club in his pants then allegedly stole $700 worth of other items from a store.
A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Logan Timothy Munz, 26, is facing a charge of theft, with a previous felony conviction, which is a third-degree felony.
“A/P (accused person) was seen attempting to conceal a golf club down his pants and when that did not work he spoke to the doorman and told the doorman that his wife had paid for the item, but the wife had been stopped about 10 minutes earlier and she was stopped for trespassing in a area of the store, and she did not pay for the items her husband had,” the statement said.
Munz then exited the store without paying for several items, the statement said.
“Post Miranda he admitted that he made the story up because he thought it would be a good way to try and take the items without hiding them,” the statement said.
A records check showed Munz has several theft convictions and numerous outstanding felony charges for theft.
“Due to the number to theft conviction and the fact that the A/P had stolen over $700 worth of stuff, he was arrested and charged with felony theft” the statement said.
The statement does not name the store that Munz allegedly stole from.
Munz was transported to Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $500.
