SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, April 25, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect has been arrested after the alleged sexual abuse of a Salt Lake County woman.

A probable cause statement from the Third District Court of Salt Lake County said Garrett Otto, 23, is facing charges of burglary, a second-degree felony, sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor and intentional abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult, a class A misdemeanor.

The probable cause statement said that on Jan. 25, Otto was staying with an acquaintance; the owners of the residence were an elderly couple.

The female victim, who is 62 years old, is completely disabled on the left side of her body, the probable cause statement said. She uses a wheelchair and a cane. The victim told officers she was laying on her bed in her room which is separate from where the suspect was staying with the acquaintance.

The suspect entered the woman’s room unlawfully and climbed on top of her.

“Victim stated A/P (accused person) licked her forehead, nibbled her ear, and groped her breast,” the statement said. “The victim screamed for her husband, who witnessed the A/P on top of his wife and pulled the A/P off.”

On April 23, Otto was arrested for an active warrant. During an interview with officers, the suspect admitted to knowing the victim and staying at their house.

Otto is also a sex offender but stated he chose not to register “because he did not want the title of sex offender,” the statement said.

The suspect was transported to the Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $15,000.
