MIDVALE, Utah, June 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police recovered a stolen vehicle late Monday night, but they’re still looking for the male suspect who ditched the car and fled on foot, leaving the two females who were with him to fend for themselves.

Sgt. J. Fowler, with Unified Police Department in Midvale, said the incident began at about 11:55 p.m., when a detective started following a Honda with a license plate that didn’t match the vehicle.

The detective attempted a traffic stop at Fort Union and Union Park, Fowler said, and the Honda took off.

Police didn’t pursue the stolen car, but located it after it had traveled into a neighborhood and down a dead-end street in the area of 1340 East and Hollow Dale Drive (6780 South).

“Two females attempted to exit the vehicle,” Fowler told Gephardt Daily. “They were both detained.”

Ultimately, one of the women was released, and one was booked into jail on an unrelated warrant, he said. Neither woman is believed to have been involved in the theft of the Honda.

Officers set up a containment area and brought in K-9 units to search for the male suspect who fled, but he wasn’t found.

Fowler said at about 2 a.m. Tuesday that the police were still in the process of identifying the man and gathering other details on the incident.

Gephardt Daily will follow up on this developing story as more information is made available.
