NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (UPI) — A New York girl who suffered severe burns during a house fire received Christmas cards from around the world in response to a call to action on social media.

Eight-year-old Safyre Terry was photographed holding several Christmas cards, which she hopes to use to fill up her aunt and legal guardian’s Christmas tree cardholder.

“Can you say GLOWING…Safrye got mail today,” a post on “Safyre Schenectady’s Super Survivor” a Facebook page dedicated to the girl read.

Safyre suffered severe burns after surviving an act of arson in May 2013 that killed her parents and two siblings. She now lives with her aunt, Liz Dolder.

“Safyre lost everyting — her father, her mother, her sister, her brothers, her home, her favorite toy, her favorite outfit — everything that was familiar to her,” Dolder told Today.

On Dec 4, a man named Kevin Clark shared a photo of Safyre next to Dolder’s cardholder, sharing her address and encouraging others to send her Christmas cards.

“I wonder how many of my friends wold take the time to write and send Safyre a Merry Christmas card that she can hang on her card tree,” he wrote.

People across the nation responded, sending seasons greetings in the form of cards and even emails from as far away as Sweden, Russia and the UK.
