BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, May 21, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man from Idaho died Friday after a semi he was driving crashed and rolled in Box Elder County, police said.

A black 2005 Freightliner semi, pulling two empty asphalt tar tankers, was northbound on Interstate 15 near milepost 390 at approximately 4 p.m., according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The semi drove into the median and continued northbound through the median, across both southbound lanes of travel, then off the west side of the southbound highway, the news release said.

The west side shoulder is dirt and has a hillside that goes up to the west. The truck and trailers traveled north up the hillside until the vehicle lost momentum and rolled one complete rotation down the hill, landing on its wheels. The rear trailer became disconnected and rolled onto its side.

The driver, Charles P. Ganieany, 43, of Idaho Falls, was taken to Bear River Valley Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Utah Highway Patrol said it is investigating a possible medical problem as a factor in the crash.
