PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Dec. 19, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A man involved in a multi-vehicle collision Friday morning in Pleasant Grove has died.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, 59-year-old Juan Lopez of West Valley City was critically injured at 11:35 a.m. Friday when the Pontiac Aztec he was driving southbound on I-15 crossed several lanes of traffic and rear-ended a pickup truck, spilling construction staples across the freeway.
“After that initial collision, the Aztec went back to the left across the lanes and hit the center concrete barrier then bounced back into traffic and hit an airport shuttle van,” UHP Sgt. Brett Christensen said. “The shuttle van, after it was hit, went out of control and hit another vehicle in its side.”
According to Christensen, the Lopez had to be extricated and was taken to the hospital, where he died. A child who was with him was not injured but transported as a precaution.
One person in the shuttle van was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Christensen said the investigation is still in it’s very early stages and it is not known what other factors may have contributed to the accident but are looking into a possible medical condition.
