SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, June 25, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Texas man wanted on several felony warrants was arrested and booked into Summit County Jail on Sunday.

A Utah Department of Public Safety news release states that shortly before 10 a.m., a deputy from Summit County Sheriff’s Office checked the registration on a white Pontiac G6 out of Texas and found the vehicle was stolen. While the record results were pending, the deputy lost sight of the vehicle.

The release goes on to say that Trooper Jake Butcher saw the Pontiac heading west on Interstate 80, taking the Kimball Junction off ramp, and he followed the car while waiting for another unit to assist. Butcher didn’t activate his lights or initiate a pursuit.

Before another unit could arrive, the Pontiac pulled into a parking stall at the Newpark Complex shopping center.

Butcher then activated emergency lights and called the male driver out at gun point. After the suspect got out of the vehicle, he complied with the trooper’s commands but then fled on foot and ran into the shopping complex, where Butcher lost sight of him.

Summit County Sheriff’s and Park City Police officers set up containment, and the DPS helicopter was brought in. Troopers positively identified the suspect as Zacharey Starkey, 25, of Kerens, Texas, and learned that he had multiple felony warrants for his arrest on various weapons charges.

The DPS helicopter quickly located Starkey lying in a ditch surrounded by tall grass and directed ground officers to him. Starkey was taken into custody without further incident.

Officers discovered that Starkey had tripped as he was running and had minor injuries to both legs. He was evaluated by medical personnel before being booked into jail.
