PRESTON, Idaho, Feb. 20, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in Preston, Idaho, say that a man fatally shot his two small children and his stepson as they slept, then shot himself.
Officials were called to 67 W. 200 South shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, according a news release from Preston Police Chief Ken Geddes.
“Officers confirmed that there were four individuals dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside the home,” Geddes stated in the news release.
Those found dead were Tate Spillet, 37, daughter Jessica Spillet, 6, son McCoy Spillet, 7, and stepson Corbin Hillaker, 15. Officers said a semi-automatic weapon was used in the killings.
According to a family friend, Tate Spillet was in the process of a divorce with the children’s mother, Summer, who was on a business trip in Illinois at the time of the shooting.
The Preston Police Department is working with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police during the investigation.
