WASHINGTON, March 11 (UPI) — The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) on Tuesday approved the sale of Palcohol, a powdered form of alcohol.

The TTB worked with Palcohol creator Mark Phillips for nearly a year to make powdered alcohol conform to laws that classify alcohol as a liquid, according to Phillips.

“It is now legal to be sold in the United States. We will be working on getting the production facility up and running,” Palcohol states on its website. “It will take a while but hopefully it will be available this summer.”

Ohio, Colorado and New York are states that have moved to ban Palcohol, arguing that it is a “public health risk too great to ignore,” according to The Spirits Business.

Phillips said the claims for banning the product are based on “misinformation and ignorant speculation.”

“It is hypocritical to ban powdered alcohol and not liquid alcohol,” he said. “We believe the big liquor companies are using their money and lobbyists to encourage bills to be introduced to ban powdered alcohol to protect their market share and profits.”

Phillips released a video in an effort to illuminate his points over the controversial product:
