TUCSON, May 7 (UPI) — A University of Arizona track coach admitted to stalking, threatening and assaulting a student athlete after his arrest last Friday.

According to court records uncovered by the Arizona Daily Star, Craig Carter choked, stalked and threatened the victim — an athlete with whom he has been in a relationship with for over two years — with a box cutter.

Carter, 47, reportedly confessed to investigators that he verbally threatened to cut the student’s face while he choked her on a couch in his office, blade in-hand.

The university is currently conducting an investigation on the case while Carter sits in jail on a $40,000 bond.

University of Arizona spokesman Chris Sigurdson released a statement Wednesday evening concerning the case.

“First, while I cannot speak about any student specifically, please know that student welfare is the university’s first priority,” he said.

“The university is in the final stages of an investigation into allegations of workplace violence committed by Craig Carter. The university has suspended him from university employment, which is a disciplinary measure.”
