SALT LAKE COUNTY, UTAH – August 13, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Police arrested one of the Metro Gang Unit’s top 10 fugitives yesterday after finding the man in the trunk of his brother’s car.
Unified Police Department Lt. Lex Bell said Rubel Quintana, 24, has been listed as one of the Metro Gang Unitâs Top 10 Fugitives for the last two weeks.
He is a member of QVO, a violent street gang that originated in Salt Lake County. He was wanted on multiple felony warrants for murder, felony discharge of a firearm, robbery and charges stemming from a police pursuit with MGU where he threw a gun on July 15 in Midvale.
The Metro Gang Unit and Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team located Rubel Quintana yesterday hiding in the trunk of a vehicle driven by his brother Joseph Quintana, 23. Rubel was taken into custody without incident. Joseph was booked for obstruction of justice. Passenger Nicole Renteria, 26, was booked for possession of heroin.
The July 15 incident occurred, when according to Unified Police Lt. Bill Roberston, UPD’s Metro Gang Unit was watching a home in Midvale around 10:30 p.m. for Rubel Quintana, who was wanted on several outstanding felony warrants. Quintana and another man, Mark Steven Martinez, also with known warrants, arrived at the home and went inside.
Quintana, along with another male, Lugardo Ramos, then left the home, got into a car and sped away from officers.
Police made the decision to spike the suspects’ tires but they continued driving. Pursuing officers then performed a pit-maneuver bringing the chase to an end near 6879 S. State Street.
One suspect was tasered as he was taken into custody. The second was arrested without incident.
